The Launch of The Hind School of India

In July 2025, The Hind School commenced its academic and public programming, inaugurating a bold new chapter in Indian higher education. Founded as an independent institution solely dedicated to India Studies, The Hind School emerges as a pioneering space for research, reflection, and leadership grounded in the Indian civilizational tradition.

This launch marks not only the beginning of a new academic initiative but also the emergence of an intellectual movement committed to the renewal of Indian knowledge systems — offering a platform for critical inquiry, interdisciplinary scholarship, and cultural imagination rooted in the Indian worldview.

Rethinking India, Rebuilding Thought

The Hind School was established in response to a growing need — within India and globally — for rigorous, future-facing engagement with Indian traditions of knowledge, governance, aesthetics, ethics, and metaphysics. While India has long contributed to global intellectual history, the country’s own civilizational grammar has often remained peripheral within dominant models of higher education. The Hind School addresses this gap by placing Indian thought at the center of scholarly inquiry and public discourse.

Drawing from classical texts and languages, as well as modern political and cultural transformations, the School advances a new kind of India Studies — one that is neither nostalgic nor reactionary, but dynamic, critical, and generative. It positions India not simply as a geographical or political entity, but as a living idea, a philosophical project, and a civilizational imagination.

Academic Vision: Intellectual Rigour Meets Cultural Relevance

The Hind School’s academic programmes are designed to bridge the worlds of scholarship, public leadership, and cultural practice. Initial offerings include:

  • The Hind Culture Fellowship, a three-month immersion for emerging leaders in Indian studies, cultural policy, and intellectual history

  • The Research Studio, supporting long-form inquiry by early-career scholars and independent researchers

  • The Public Lectures and Dialogues Series, where leading thinkers, writers, and practitioners engage in open conversations on Indian knowledge, identity, and ethics

  • Hind Labs, a platform for experimental and interdisciplinary research that spans the humanities, social sciences, and design thinking

The School fosters a pedagogy that is both dialogical and rigorous — encouraging students and fellows to read deeply, think freely, and engage across traditions and disciplines. The emphasis is on both textual depth and practical relevance: not simply to study Indian knowledge, but to carry it forward in meaningful ways.

A New Kind of Institutional Model

Founded as an independent and community-driven initiative, The Hind School is not affiliated with any government body or legacy institution. This independence allows for academic autonomy, intellectual diversity, and experimental modes of governance and pedagogy. The School invites researchers, writers, artists, and educators from India and around the world to co-create its academic and cultural landscape.

The governance structure of the institution includes a rotating faculty council, research mentors, and an editorial board that publishes insights and essays across its digital platforms. Its work is supported by a growing network of patrons, cultural organizations, and research collaborators.

A School, A Platform, A Movement

The Hind School is not just an institution — it is a platform and a movement. It is a response to the growing desire among young Indians and global scholars alike to study India on India’s own terms. It seeks to enable a generation of public intellectuals who are not only conversant with global debates, but also deeply anchored in the Indian traditions of inquiry, governance, and aesthetics.

At its core, The Hind School represents a belief: that India’s future will be shaped not only by its economic growth or political strength, but by its ability to think deeply, imagine boldly, and remember wisely.
