About Us
The First School of Applied India Studies
Where India is not merely studied—it is lived, applied, and reimagined as a civilizational method for global inquiry.
Our Story
Reimagining India for the 21st Century
Our story began with a question: What would it mean to truly place India at the center of knowledge, leadership, and public life? Founded in New Delhi by a collective of scholars, practitioners, and public thinkers, The Hind School emerged as a bold response to a pressing need—an institution that does not replicate traditional academic frameworks, but reimagines them through the lens of India’s civilizational wisdom and everyday realities.
Born out of conviction rather than convention, The Hind School is the world’s first institution exclusively devoted to Applied India Studies. We are driven by the belief that India is not simply a subject to be studied, but a method to understand the world—its challenges, its resilience, and its future. From our inaugural programs to our earliest fellows, every initiative is shaped by immersion, interdisciplinarity, and impact.
Today, The Hind School is more than a place of learning. It is a civic-intellectual movement—a space where public purpose meets academic inquiry, and where the next generation of leaders are prepared not only to understand India, but to serve it, shape it, and share its insights with the world.
About Us
Who We Are
The Hind School is a future-facing academic institution dedicated to Indian thought and civilizational knowledge. We bring together researchers, learners, and cultural practitioners to rethink India’s intellectual foundations, historical continuity, cultural imagination, and its role in the world today.
Our Vision
To cultivate a new generation of Indian thinkers, scholars, and public leaders who are grounded in India’s civilizational heritage, equipped with rigorous academic training, and prepared to engage with the world’s most pressing challenges through an Indian lens not just as a nation, but as an idea with global relevance.
Core Value
At The Hind School, our values guide everything we do. We believe in swaraj in ideas, fostering intellectual independence grounded in Indian traditions. We uphold rigour in research, valuing scholarly depth and academic discipline. Through community in action, we promote collective learning and mutual growth.
Why The Hind School?
A New Kind of School
The Hind School is not a university. It is a new kind of institution—a school of thought built to rethink India through inquiry, practice, and lived experience. Free from conventional academic boundaries, we explore India not as a subject to observe, but as a method to engage.
Field First Approach
Our approach is field-first. We connect research to real settings—whether that’s a tribal district, an endangered language, a legal archive, or a craft tradition. By anchoring study in place, people, and problem-solving, we redefine what applied learning looks like.
Interdisciplinary Approach
Applied India studies is, by nature, interdisciplinary. At The Hind School, we bring together diverse domains—history, design, ecology, governance, law, and language—to understand India in all its complexity. Our fellows don’t work in silos.
Community-Driven
The Hind School is shaped by its community. Fellows, mentors, and partners co-create its direction through dialogue, trust, and purpose. Together, we are building the world’s first institutional home for applied India studies—rooted in India, relevant to the world.
Our Team
Passion and Precision in Our Team
The Hind School is currently led by a small founding team committed to building an institution of lasting cultural and intellectual value. As we build, we’re supported by a growing network of mentors, fellows, and cultural practitioners who believe in the need for a new kind of school for India.
