Building the Intellectual Foundation for Applied India Studies

At The Hind School, research forms the core of our mission to redefine how India is studied and understood. The Hind Research initiative develops the theoretical and empirical foundations of Applied India Studies—a field that integrates scholarship with experience, and thought with terrain. Our work bridges policy, culture, and civilisation, combining rigorous inquiry with field-based learning. Each publication, from whitepapers to working notes, contributes to a new framework of India-centred knowledge—rooted in tradition, responsive to change, and relevant to the world.

Blueprint for Applied India Studies: Reimagining the Study of India through Field-Based Learning

This whitepaper introduces Applied India Studies as a new discipline grounded in India’s civilisational knowledge and contemporary challenges. It proposes a five-pillar framework — Policy, Culture, Development, Civilisation, and Innovation — and a Studio–Seminar–Field pedagogy. The paper positions The Hind School as a prototype for a globally relevant and India-rooted model of higher learning.
